An 18-year-old opened fire inside the Butte County Library’s Sherman Avenue branch on Monday evening, killing two adults and injuring a teenager. The shooting occurred at 5:12 p.m. on June 22, 2026.
Police identified the suspect as Bradley Scott Sayer, a recent Chico High School graduate, who acted alone and had planned a “Columbine High School massacre-type shooting.”

Chico police arrested Sayer shortly after he exited the building. He faces two counts of murder and remains in Butte County Jail.
A teenager was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The names of the two adult victims have not yet been released.
