Armed man arrested near US Capitol

US Capitol Police arrested a man carrying a firearm at the North Barricade of the Capitol Building, the force said in a statement. Firearms are prohibited on Capitol Grounds.

Police say they are investigating who the suspect is and why he drove to the Capitol . Photos from the scene show a police cordon and multiple emergency vehicles surrounding a gray Ford Bronco at the barricade.

Video captured by CNN showed multiple officers surrounding the SUV, two with guns drawn, as the man exited the driver’s side with his hands raised.

He walked backward from the vehicle before being handcuffed. A dog was inside the car.  The man was placed into a police cruiser near the Senate side of the building; he has not been identified.
