Austin police have released body camera footage and 911 calls from the fatal shooting of a 29-year-old man who was armed with a handgun during an incident near downtown Austin on Saturday.

According to police, the incident began earlier that morning when a runner asked Emmanuel Diaz to slow down on his electric scooter. The situation escalated into a verbal argument involving slurs, a physical altercation in which Diaz struck a woman and pointed his handgun at people while threatening to shoot.

Diaz, who was armed, refused commands to drop the handgun. After falling, he pointed the weapon at officers, who then opened fire. He was pronounced dead at the scene despite life-saving efforts. No officers or bystanders were injured.

Police recovered the handgun Diaz was holding, along with two additional loaded handguns and extra ammunition. None of the firearms were reported stolen.
