Two crew members were killed and two others taken to hospital when two firefighting helicopters collided while battling a wildfire west of Athens on Sunday, authorities said.

The collision happened in the Psatha area, on the Gulf of Corinth coast, part of the front against the large Porto Germeno fire. Greece’s fire service said search and rescue teams were scrambled the moment the aircraft went down. The two survivors were pulled from the scene and taken for treatment. Helicopters had been working over western Attica since around 6:30 a.m.

This is a developing story.
