Pentagon names four US troops killed in Iranian attacks on Jordan, Iraq

The Pentagon has identified four American service members killed in Iranian attacks this month, in the deadliest stretch for US personnel since the war began in March. The confirmations bring the total number of US troops killed since the conflict started to 18.

1st Lt. Tyler James Feehan, 25, of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, and Pvt. Isabella Gonzales, 19, of Carrollton, Texas, were killed in an Iranian attack on Jordan’s Muwaffaq Salti Air Base — Gonzales on Friday, Feehan the following day. A third soldier initially listed as missing from the same attack, Sgt. Angel S. Rampersad, 28, of Ozone Park, New York, is now believed to have died as well. Rampersad and Gonzales served together in the 10th Army Air & Missile Defense Command, based in Ansbach, Germany.

The fourth, Sgt. Michael Emmanuel Swinton, 30, of Fayetteville, North Carolina, was killed in a separate incident in Iraq, during what the military described as a controlled detonation of a drone at Erbil Air Base. He leaves behind a 6-year-old son and 4-year-old daughter. “I will never recover from this,” his wife, Mia Gonzalez-Swinton, wrote on Facebook.

Nearly 100 American service members have been injured in Iranian attacks across the Middle East this month, Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell confirmed Monday.
