Peru’s electoral commission has officially declared conservative candidate Keiko Fujimori the winner of the presidential election, ending weeks of vote counting in one of the closest races in the country’s history.
Fujimori defeated leftist rival Roberto Sánchez with approximately 50.13% to 49.87% of the vote, securing a razor-thin margin of victory. She is set to take office on July 28, 2026, becoming Peru’s first female president.
The daughter of former president Alberto Fujimori, Keiko Fujimori had run unsuccessfully in the previous three elections.
Her campaign focused on promises of security, economic stability, and order amid Peru’s ongoing political turbulence.
Sánchez has not yet conceded, and some tensions remain as final results are certified.
