Russian daredevils arrested after scaling Empire State Building

Russian couple was arrested Wednesday after climbing to the very top of the Empire State Building’s spire and unfurling a large banner reading: “When the power of love beats the love of power the world knows peace.”

The couple, Angela Nikolau and Ivan Beerkus, reached the 1,454-foot antenna without visible safety gear.

While atop the skyscraper, Ivan got down on one knee and proposed. The couple embraced and kissed after removing their masks, with the dramatic moment captured on video from helicopters circling the building.

NYPD officers had to scale the building to detain them after they climbed down to a lower platform. The pair was taken into custody around 1 p.m.

The two could be looking at charges like reckless endangerment, burglary, criminal trespass and more.
