A Montreal police officer, a civilian, and the armed suspect were killed in a shooting in the Côte-des-Neiges neighbourhood on Monday.

Montreal police responded to reports of gunshots and a firearm seen in a window near Décarie Boulevard around 11:30 a.m. When officers arrived, the suspect opened fire, sparking a shootout. The suspect was shot and killed at the scene.

One police officer was fatally shot in the line of duty. A second officer (reported as female) was critically injured but is now stable. One civilian was also killed, and another civilian was injured.

The suspect acted alone and was neutralized quickly. A long gun (SKS rifle) was recovered at the scene.

An emergency shelter-in-place alert was issued for parts of Côte-des-Neiges and remained in effect for several hours before being lifted once the area was secured. The investigation is ongoing.
