The United States has reinstated its naval blockade of Iran in the Strait of Hormuz, with President Donald Trump announcing that America will act as the “guardian” of the vital waterway and charge a 20% toll on all cargo for providing security.
Trump said on Truth Social that the US would stop Iranian ships or those headed to Iranian ports from entering or leaving, calling it “THE IRANIAN BLOCKADE.”
The move comes amid renewed US strikes on Iran and Iranian attacks on US allies in the Gulf, effectively ending a short-lived ceasefire reached in June.
CENTCOM says its forces will resume blockading maritime traffic in and out of Iranian ports on July 14 at 4 p.m. ET.

The Strait of Hormuz is a critical chokepoint for global oil shipments, with roughly 20% of the world’s oil passing through it daily.
