Multiple people have been killed in a fire at the Oxy building on Place De Brouckère in central Brussels, the Brussels labor prosecutor’s office confirms, with six people still missing. Investigators say several bodies have been found in the building’s elevator shafts.
The fire broke out around 8:00 local time on the second floor of the building, which is undergoing a major renovation, and spread to the first floor and down the lift shaft to the second basement level, the Brussels fire brigade said.
The blaze initially appeared quickly contained, with only injuries reported — two workers taken to hospital with severe burns in concerning condition, and a firefighter treated at the scene for heatstroke.
