Telegram restored to Apple’s App Store after brief worldwide outage

Telegram is back on Apple’s App Store after vanishing for about an hour early Tuesday, a brief disappearance that blocked new downloads worldwide and rattled the platform’s crypto token before service was restored.

Users in multiple countries began reporting shortly after 01:00 GMT that the messaging app had gone missing, with its App Store page returning a “page can’t be found” error. About an hour later it reappeared. “Telegram has been restored on the App Store and should soon be available again for all users,” the company said, without explaining what happened. On its official account, Telegram struck a lighter note, posting that reports of its demise were greatly exaggerated.

Apple has not commented and gave no reason for either the removal or the restoration. Throughout the outage, people who already had the app installed could keep using it normally; only new downloads and updates were affected. GRAM, the token tied to Telegram’s blockchain, fell around 8% during the disruption.

Telegram has a history of App Store friction. Apple briefly pulled the app worldwide in 2018 over inappropriate content, then restored it within hours once the company added safeguards.
