US musician Oliver Tree among six killed in Rio helicopter collision

American singer-songwriter Oliver Tree was among six people killed when two helicopters collided mid-air over Recreio dos Bandeirantes in Rio de Janeiro on June 14.

The 32-year-old musician, known for hits including “Life Goes On” and “Miss You,” was travelling in one of the helicopters when it collided with another aircraft over the western zone of the city. The crash killed all six people on board.

One of the helicopters fell onto the car park of a dealership, setting around 20 vehicles on fire. Firefighters brought the blaze under control and recovered the bodies from the wreckage.

Brazilian authorities confirmed the identities of the victims through dental records and other means. Tree’s body has since been returned to the United States.

The singer had been on a world tour in support of his latest album at the time of the crash.

The cause of the mid-air collision remains under investigation by Brazilian aviation authorities
